Matt Goggin was a pacy, highly skilled wingman who ended his VFL career aged just twenty-five while still at the peak of his ability. He played 88 League games for Geelong and booted five goals between 1955 and 1961. Strong overhead and an accurate kick, he represented Victoria against South Australia in 1960, the same afternoon his brother Bill played for a number two side in Hobart. In 1962 he embarked on a new phase of his football career as captain-coach of country club Cohuna.
