Having worked his way up from the under 19s Michael Kol made his senior league debut for Geelong in 1983. A clever and extremely quick forward and half forward, he went on to play 63 VFL games and score 42 goals for the Cats over eight seasons, although he did not play in the seniors at all in 1988. (He actually won that season’s Gardiner Medal for best and fairest in the VFL reserves competition.) His twin brother Nigel also played a couple of games for Geelong before a more concerted spell at Melbourne.
