The son of Bryan, who also played for the Kangaroos, Michael 'Mick' Martyn made the full-back position his own in 15 seasons and 287 games with North Melbourne. A no-nonsense footballer with an aggressive streak, Martyn was the bane of opposition full-forwards throughout his career. He played in North's premiership teams of 1996 and 1999 and is deservedly seen as a legend of the club. To the surprise and consternation of some, Martyn played a final season at Carlton in 2003 under his former Kangaroos' coach Denis Pagan. The 13 games he played in that season enable him to finish his career with a games total of exactly 300.
