After playing his early football on a wing Norm Doig migrated to the back pocket and developed into one of the best players in that position in Western Australia. Between 1932 and 1938 and in 1940 he played 138 WANFL games and registered four goals for East Fremantle. He was a premiership player in both 1933 and 1937.
In 1939 Doig joined the RAAF and, while briefly stationed in Melbourne, he played two VFL games for Essendon.
