Father of dual Hawthorn premiership player Scott, Norm Maginness was a capable all round footballer who was typically deployed across half back or in the centre. Between 1953 and 1958 he played 64 VFL games for the Hawks without scoring any goals. The undoubted highlight of his playing career was participating in the 1957 finals series, Hawthorn’s first, which featured a win over Carlton and a loss to eventual premiers Melbourne.
