Thinly built Percy Bean, appropriately nicknamed ‘String’, was a handy half forward flanker who played serviceably with three Sydney-based clubs. He commenced with Sydney in 1922 before crossing to Paddington the following year. Finally, he spent the period between 1926 and 1931 with Eastern Suburbs, whom he helped to premierships in his first two seasons. He was a regular representative player, playing five times for Combined Sydney and once for New South Wales
