This tall, rangy player has developed into one of the State’s top ruckmen. Difficult to get off balance, he runs for long spells on the ball. Marks well around the ground.¹
Father of Matthew 'Spider' Burton, one of the tallest footballers ever to play the game, Peter Burton himself was a towering specimen standing 198cm in height, but like his son he was of spindly build. He commenced with Subiaco's fourths and thirds teams in 1966 and made speedy progress, making his senior debut the following year and rapidly establishing himself as a key member of the side.
Lining up principally as a ruckman Burton played 182 League games and kicked 108 goals for the Maroons between 1967 and 1976, the consensus being that he improved with age as affirmed in his second to last season when he played interstate football for Western Australia and won his club's fairest and best award. Hard working and resilient, he was included in Subiaco's 'Champion Team 1946 to 1976'.
