Solidly built ruckman Peter Higgins played under 19s and reserves football with Carlton, only to be discarded without playing a senior game. In 1987 he ventured west, and threw in his lot with Claremont. It proved to be a timely move as the Tigers went top that year, downing Subiaco in the grand final by the hefty margin of 71 points.
At the following year’s VFL Draft Higgins was picked up by West Coast, but in three seasons on their list he managed just four appearances. Most of his time was spent playing for Claremont (until 1990) and East Fremantle (21 games in 1991) in the WAFL. After being de-listed by the Eagles he returned to Claremont for one last campaign in 1993, taking his final tally of games with the club to 59.
