Originally from Alice Springs, where he played for local team Rovers, Richard Gerke joined Woodville in 1990 and played seven games in what was to be the club’s last ever season. He did not play league football in 1991 but then bobbed up at North Adelaide in 1992.

A centreman who boasted plenty of skill, Gerke gave fine service to the Roosters in 136 SANFL games between 1992 to 1998. He then spent a season playing for Murray Bridge before crossing to Sydney club Pennant Hills in 2001, where he finished his playing career.
