After struggling to make his mark at South Fremantle, where he played 15 senior games in 1976 and 1977, Robbie Johnson developed into a handy on-baller for arch rivals East Fremantle, adding another 47 league appearances over five seasons. In 1979 he had the immense satisfaction of helping Old Easts to a 21.19 (145) to 16.16 (112) Grand Final triumph over his former club.
Robbie Johnson hailed from a footballing family in that his father was Percy Johnson senior, a fine player and colourful personality with East Fremantle during the 1950s and early 1960s, while his brother, Percy Johnson junior, played 10 games for Old Easts in 1976 and 1977.
