Robert Thompson was a solid defender who was one of Adelaide’s inaugural AFL squad members in 1991. He played the first three matches of the ‘91 season but only appeared twice after that before being de-listed.
The bulk of Thompson’s playing career was spent with Glenelg in the SANFL. Between 1987 and 1993 he played 113 games and registered five goals for the Tigers. He appeared in the 1990 and 1992 grand final losses to Port Adelaide, and was listed among his side’s best players after both matches.
