After a highly promising junior career Robert Lamb joined Richmond and made his way up through the ranks from the thirds, making his senior debut in round five 1973. A half forward flanker, he was clever and elusive with a keen goal sense, but he failed to fully establish himself with the Tigers, and ended up playing slightly more games with the reserves than the seniors. From 1973 to 1978 he played 58 senior games and scored 120 goals. He was Richmond’s top goal kicker in 1976 with a tally of 38 majors.

The 1979 season saw Lamb at South Melbourne where he added a final seven games and 10 goals. He later played for Wonthaggi and Murrumbeena and was non-playing coach of amateur teams Ajax and University Blues.
