There is nothing showy about his work - he just consistently wins the ball in the air and on the ground. He is a direct player who can swerve when necessary without losing pace.¹
Winner of Woodville’s best and fairest award in his debut season of 1965, it would perhaps be fair to suggest that Rodney Allen thereafter failed fully to realise his potential. Nevertheless, he gave the ‘Peckers sound service, mainly as a wingman or centreman, in precisely 200 league games over 11 consecutive seasons.² He kicked 24 goals. After retiring from league football at the age of 28 he played for various suburban and country clubs in both South Australia and Victoria for almost a decade.
