Ross Bowe’s WANFL career was only brief but it was memorable. Recruited locally by South Fremantle, the lightly framed wingman enjoyed an outstanding debut season in 1962 when he ran second in the club’s fairest and best count and polled a highly creditable 10 votes in the Sandover Medal. The 1963 season proved to be even better, with Bowe procuring South’s fairest and best award and stamping himself as a player of real class. However, after playing just 43 WANFL games and kicking five goals in two seasons Bowe underwent an employment transfer to Canberra, whereupon he threw in his lot with the Eastlake Football Club. He enjoyed a fine near decade long career with the Demons which included three premierships and almost automatic selection for the ACT’s representative combinations.
