Kevin Taylor had a somewhat topsy-turvy career at five different clubs. The most noteworthy phases of that career came during his times with East Fremantle in 1979-80 and 1982-4, when he played a total of 101 games and kicked 257 goals. A live-wire rover with a penchant for kicking high goal tallies from the forward pocket his aggregate haul of 102 goals in 1979 saw him head the WANFL list. He was a premiership player the same season and was awarded the Simpson Medal after Old East’s comprehensive defeat of arch rivals South Fremantle in the grand final. A second Simpson followed in 1982 when he was adjudged best afield in Western Australia’s victory against South Australia.

Taylor spent the 1981 season with South Melbourne and performed creditably, kicking 24 goals in 14 appearances. He later spent part of the 1984 season at Fitzroy but managed only 1 game before returning home to East Fremantle.

The 1985 and 1986 seasons saw him lining up with Swan Districts where, after an excellent start, his form fell away and he ended up being dropped. He played 32 WAFL games and kicked 76 goals.

Kevin Taylor’s final port of call was West Torrens where he rediscovered some of his best form, playing 33 games and kicking 56 goals in 1987-8.
