Boisdale and Briagolong had had contrasting histories prior to their merger in 1982. Boisdale had been an active member of the North Gippsland Football League since 1965, claiming a senior grade flag in 1970 and finishing second twice, whereas Briagolong had been in recess for three decades. The merged club competed initially in the NGFL before transferring to the Riviera Football League in 1986. Its record in the RFL was excellent, involving half a dozen senior grade grand final appearances for three premierships.
In 2004 the Bombers resumed in the NGFL, struggling somewhat initially but showing gradual improvement culminating in a finals appearance in 2008, a feat that was repeated in 2009. Thereafter, however, the side struggled, and in 2013 and 2014 they slumped to the wooden spoon. The 2015 season saw the Bombers crossing to the East Gippsland Football League in which they finished seventh (of eight) in each of their first three seasons before improving to finish one place shy of finals qualification - only on percentage - in 2018. This was followed by an excellent 2019 campaign which saw the side make it as far as the grand final, only to lose to Lindenow.
