After stamping themselves as one of the leading teams in the AFL Darling Downs over the course of the first two decades of their existence the Hawks appeared until very recently to have lost their way somewhat with the last of their seven winning grand finals being as long ago as 2000. They qualified for the grand final in 2015, only to lose to Coolaroo by 45 points. Moreover, they contested the finals in 2017 for the fifth year in a row, getting as far as the grand final once more in which they fell short by 44 points against University Cougars. In 2018 the Hawks made it as far as a losing grand final clash with USQ Cougars. They battled hard, particularly in the second and third quarters, but ultimately fell short by four straight kicks. Finally, in 2019 the Hawks enjoyed grand final success when they accounted for an inaccurate Coolaroo combination by four points, 7.9 (51) to 5.17 (47). A year latern they suffered disappointment in the ultimate match of the year, going down by 19 points to South Toowoomba.
