Gunnedah and District
An earlier incarnation of the Gunnedah and District Australian Football Club disbanded during the early 1990s. Today's Bulldogs have competed in the Tamworth Australian Football League - known from 2017 as AFL North West - for the past seventeen years and in 2017 they finally claimed their first senior grade flag. Opposed in the grand final by New England Nomads they led narrowly at every change by 16, 10 and 1 points before pulling away in the last term to procure a relatively comfortable 20 point win. Scores were Gunnedah and District 15.16 (106) defeated New England Nomads 13.8 (86). A year later the Bulldogs again made it through to the decisive match of the year but opponents Inverell Saints proved to have their measure and emerged victorious by 16 points. This was followed by an exemplary 2019 campaign which produced a second premiership triumph, procured at the expense of New England, with grand final scores of 13.12 (90) to 11.13 (79). Owing to the coronavirus pandemic there was no AFL North Coast senior competition in 2020.
