Rutherglen Cats

When Corowa and Rutherglen merged in 1979 the result was two new clubs, Corowa Rutherglen, which competed - and continues to compete - in the Ovens and Murray Football League, and Rutherglen Corowa (often referred to simply as Rutherglen) which joined the Coreen and District Football League. Known as the Cats, this second club enjoyed considerable success, contesting eight senior grade grand finals between 1979 and 1991, and emerging victorious from three of them. Between 1992 and 2003 the club competed in the Ovens and King Football League, while since 2004 it has been a member of the Tallangatta and District Football League. In neither of these competitions has it managed to add to its senior grade premiership tally although recent performances have been promising. In 2015, 2016 and 2017 the Cats qualified for the finals before slipping down the ladder to seventh (of twelve) in 2018.
