South Colac

Boasting the respectable record of five senior premierships since 1951, South Colac has been a mainstay of the Colac and District Football League for more than seven decades. The club’s most recent flag in 2002 was arguably the most dramatic and memorable. Thrashed by Lorne in the second semi final to the tune of 99 points, the Kangaroos recovered to scrape past Forrest in the following week’s preliminary final by 4 points. Then, in the premiership decider, they turned the form book on its head with a 14.8 (92) to 12.11 (83) revenge triumph over Lorne.

Three seasons after their 2002 heroics the ‘Roos experienced the reverse side of the ledger when they succumbed to a winless wooden spoon. Since then there has been a modicum of improvement with the side qualifying for the finals in fifth place in 2009 before losing the elimination final to Alvie by 40 points. In the last seven seasons the 'Roos have twice come close to adding to their premiership haul: in 2011 they lost the grand final to Birregurra by 3 points, while in 2016 it was once again Birregurra who stood in South Colac's way, winning the grand final by 22 points, 11.10 (76) to 7.12 (54). The 2017 season brought a marginal decline in fortunes as the 'Roos bid for the premiership was brought to an end by Birregurra at the preliminary final stage. A year later it was Lorne who inflicted the coup de grace at the same point of the season as indeed they would do again in 2018.
