Yarragon

The Yarragon Football Club was officially inaugurated in late 1895 with a Mr. Pope and a Mr. Rodda as the first President and Secretary. In 1896 Yarragon commenced in the Moe and Trafalgar Football Association, competing for the "Charles Trophy". The club won its first senior grade premiership in 1908 whilst competing in the West Gippsland Football Association. Opposed in the decisive match of the year by Bunyip Yarragon won by 18 points, 6.9 (45) to 4.3 (27). The club's second senior flag was obtained in 1921 courtesy of an 8.13 (61) to 5.6 (36) grand final defeat of Warragul. Yarragon was competing in the Central and West Gippsland Football Association at this time.

Since commencing in the Mid Gippsland Football League in 1977 Yarragon has managed to reach the senior grade grand final only once, in its debut season in the league, awhen the Panthers scraped home by 7 points against Newborough. Final scores were Yarragon 13.8 (86) defeated Newborough 11.13 (79). Known prior to their admission to the MGFL as the Magpies the club was forced to forego this nickname as it was already being used by Yinnar. Yarragon were known as the Yarras in 1977 before adopting their current nickname of the Panthers the following year. Since achieving consecutive third place finishes in 2009 and 2010 the Panthers have failed to contest the finals. The last few seasons have seen them finish ninth (both 2014 and 2015), seventh (2016), ninth once more in 2017 and seventh (2018) on a premiership ladder containing ten teams.
