At his best, Stephen Paxman was one of the leading full backs in the AFL. Calm and unflappable, he routinely kept tight wraps on his direct opponent whilst intelligently marshalling his fellow defenders. He was a decent player for Fitzroy and developed into a star with Port Adelaide, winning the club’s best and fairest award in 1999. His time with the Lions encompassed the period between 1991 and 1996 during which he played 102 games and kicked 18 goals. He followed this with 138 games and 20 goals for the Power between 1997 and 2003.
