Father of Fitzroy champion and Hall of Fame Legend Kevin Murray, Dan Murray, like his son, played mainly on a half back flank. He commenced with Fitzroy in 1933, but after two seasons he crossed to Prahran in the VFA. In 1936 he played in the Two Blues’ losing grand final team against Northcote, and in all played 57 games and scored nine goals for the club over nine seasons. The 1938 season saw him back with the Roys where he remained until 1945 (although he did not play in 1942), ultimately playing a total of 66 VFL games and scoring four goals. He was a reserve in Fitzroy’s 1944 premiership-winning team.
