Mount Compass

Mount Compass Football Club was established in 1924 but did not engage in formal competition until ten years later when it spent a single season participating in the Fleurieu Peninsula Football Association. Between 1935 and 1939 the club only took part in informal matches before resuming competitive activity in 1940, this time in the Southern Football League. The Bulldogs’ best season in this competition was 1950 when they reached the grand final, only to go down by 51 points to Willunga.

Since 1953 Mount Compass has been a member of the Great Southern Football League. The side reached a grand final in only its second season, and duly secured the premiership with a 6.20 (56) to 4.10 (34) defeat of Victor Harbor. In all, the Bulldogs have contested nine senior grade GSFL grand finals, with those of 1959 against Encounter Bay, 1980 against Strathalbyn, 2016 against Encounter Bay and 2017 versus Willunga in addition to the 1954 game resulting in victories. In 1977, 1979, 1990, 2015 and 2018 the Bulldogs finished second.
