The Basin

In 1962, The Basin was a founder member of the Eastern Districts Football League, precursor of today’s Eastern Football League. The club promptly won the new competition’s very first Division Three premiership, defeating Wandin in the grand final by the narrowest of margins, 10.8 (68) to 9.13 (67). The Bears have since captured two more Division Three flags, in 1985 at the expense of Fairpark, and in 1994 against Templestowe. Their fourth and most recent senior grade premiership was obtained in Division Four in 2012 when they accounted for South Belgrave in the grand final by 53 points. The Bears have also finished runners-up on five occasions, three times in Division Three and twice in Division Four. They currently compete in Division Three where in 2017 they finished ninth of twelve clubs before putting in a much improved campaign the following year which saw them qualify for the finals and ultimately finish fifth.
