In 1974, Wy Yung Football Club, which had already been in existence for more than half a century, was a founder member of the East Gippsland Football League. The Tigers struggled to impose themselves at first, and indeed when the EGFL split into two divisions in 1984 they found themselves consigned to the lower tier. In 1986, however, the competition reverted to a single division format, whereupon Wy Yung promptly reached the grand final, only to go down to Lindenow by 44 points. Further losing grand finals followed against Lakes Entrance in 1988, and Lindenow once more in 1991, before the arrival of the club’s first flag in 1992, which came via a 9.11 (65) to 5.6 (36) grand final defeat of Snowy Rovers.
Since 1992 the Tigers have frequently featured in the end of season action, and gone on to reach the grand final on eleven occasions. However, they were only successful twice. In 2005 they scored an emphatic 16.14 (110) to 7.14 (56) victory over Bairnsdale, a team against which they had succumbed in three previous grand final encounters. Then in 2015 they accounted for Lindenow on grand final day by 7 points, 13.10 (88) to 11.15 (81). The next three seasons brought sixth, fifth and eighth place finishes on the eight team premiership ladder.
