Jack House was a versatile footballer, equally effective in the centre or at centre half forward or centre half back. His VFL career with Melbourne spanned the years 1919 to 1923, and saw him play 56 games and score 31 goals. In 1921 he played for a Victorian B side against New South Wales. The final phase of his playing career took place in the VFA with Prahran, where he served as captain-coach in 1924 and 1925, playing a total of 15 games and kicking five goals in the process.
