Melbourne recruited Ken Christie from Echuca in 1949 but could not persuade him to move to the city in order to play for two years. A solid and dependable utility he probably played his best football as a ruckman resting in defence. Vigorous and forceful, he played 70 VFL games and scored nine goals for the Demons from 1951 to 1955. He was a member of the Melbourne team which lost the 1954 grand final to Footscray.
