A ruck-rover or utility who could run all day Ken Ross was a fine player for well over a decade in both the VFA and VFL. He commenced his career with Northcote before crossing to Fitzroy, aged twenty, in 1948. He was one of the last ever VFL players to use the place kick.

Between 1956 and 1958 Ross played for and coached Camberwell, winning the Liston Trophy for best and fairest in the VFA in 1957. He resumed with Fitzroy in 1959 and enjoyed a good year. However, after struggling early in the 1960 season he retired after playing 129 VFL games and kicking 36 goals for the men in maroon.
