Les Rusich was a clever footballer who had good ball handling skills, could kick well with both feet, and had a calm, unhurried air about him which helped inspire his team mates. He played 54 VFL games and scored 33 goals for South Melbourne from 1912 to 1915. Most of his football was played as a forward, including South’s losing grand finals of 1912 against Essendon, when he lined up in a forward pocket, and 1914 against Carlton, when he was selected on a half forward flank.
