Craig Ebert was a capable league footballer who followed in the footsteps of his older brother Russell by joining Port Adelaide. Between 1981 and 1988 he played 112 games for the club without ever really establishing himself as a first choice player. The Magpies won two premierships during Craig Ebert’s career but he missed out on both. The closest he got was a place in Port’s 1984 grand final team, which lost to Norwood.
Seeking regular senior grade football Ebert crossed to West Adelaide in 1989 and, over the ensuing three seasons, added a final 56 games to his career tally.
Craig Ebert is the father of former West Coast and current Port Adelaide player Brad Ebert. As mentioned, he is a brother of Magpie legend Russell Ebert, while another brother, Jeff, was also a useful footballer who won the 1974 Grogan Medal whilst playing for Morningside in the QAFL.
