Dean Farnham was, at 206cm and 115kg, one of the tallest and heftiest top level footballers ever. At his best he was a highly effective tap ruckmen, but he was hampered by injury, particularly later in his career. Farnham commenced with Central District in 1968 and had played 80 SANFL games and kicked 23 goals by the time he crossed to Fitzroy after the 1973 season. He also represented South Australia three times, kicking two goals. He never really showed his best form in Melbourne and managed just 17 senior VFL games in two seasons, although it has to be said that suffering a dislocated knee was a significant exacerbating factor.
