A dual premiership player with the Blues, Jim Baird was equally at home at both ends of the ground or on the ball. When Carlton beat South Melbourne in the infamous 'Bloodbath' grand final of 1945 (reviewed here) he lined up in a back pocket, while two years later he contributed three goals from full forward to the Blues' one-point win against Essendon. Extremely pacy, and a useful kick, Baird played 129 VFL games and booted 85 goals between 1941 and 1943 and from 1945 to 1951.
