Les Charge was a powerful, team-orientated tap ruckman whose highly promising league career was cut short by World War I. He joined South Melbourne from one of that club's most fruitful recruiting grounds in Leopold, and made the first of an eventual 65 VFL appearances in 1910. He was a member of South's losing Challenge Final teams against Essendon in 1912 and Carlton in 1914, being listed high among the best players after the latter game. Les Charge retired at the end of the 1915 season.
