After failing to make his mark at Fitzroy, where he played five games without kicking a goal in the VFL’s inaugural season, Mick Peppard spent the next couple of years playing for Melbourne Juniors. Offered a second chance at league level by Essendon in 1900 he showed that he had improved considerably as a player, and quickly established himself in the side. He went on to play 42 games and score 10 goals for the Same Old over four seasons. He was rather unfortunate to miss the 1901 grand final, which Essendon won, with injury.
