From Beeac, Peter Walker commenced with Geelong in 1960 but it took several seasons before the club’s selectors found the best place for him in the team, which proved to be centre half back. Although not especially tall for the position at 183cm he was excellent overhead and perfectly capable of outmarking loftier opponents. He also boasted plenty of pace, excellent disposal skills, and his powers of concentration were exceptional. His duels with St Kilda centre half forward Darrel Baldock were noteworthy features of the sixties football landscape as both men sought to outdo the other by pre-eminently fair means. As to which of the two players prevailed overall, it would be impossible to say.

Cats best and fairest in 1965, Walker played for Victoria nine times, including matches at both the 1966 and 1969 carnivals. When he retired in 1971 he had played 159 VFL games and kicked one goal.
