AustralianFootball.com Celebrating the history of the great Australian game
During the 1970s Bundoora competed in the Panton Hill Football League, without notable success until 1980 when they captured their first and only premiership in the competition. In 1981 the club crossed to Division Two of the Diamond Valley Football League and immediately struck gold in the form of a grand final triumph that very year against Northcote Park. Since 1982 Bundoora has been a Division One club, both in the DVFL and the Northern Football League which replaced it in 2007. The Bulls claimed successive premierships in 1995 and 1996, and were losing grand finalists in 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2009. In 2011 they topped the premiership ladder prior to the finals before accounting for Heidelberg in both the second semi final and grand final by margins of 73 and 10 points respectively. The 2012 season saw the Bulls again contest the finals but they bowed out of the flag race with "straight sets" losses to Heidelberg and Northcote Park. Recovery was swift, however, and in 2013 they claimed their second Division One premiership in three seasons thanks to a 17.21 (123) to 13.16 (94) grand final triumph over Montmorency.
Bundoora have qualified for the finals in five of the last six seasons finishing fifth in both 2014 and 2015, and fourth in 2016 before claiming their third NFL Division One flag in 2017 courtesy of a 10.16 (76) to 10.13 (73) grand final defeat of pre-match favourites Macleod. A year later they were beaten at the first semi final stage by eventual premiers West Preston Lakeside before capitulating to the unaccustomed ignominy of a ninth (of 10 clubs) finish in 2019.
