Emerald Football Club has been a member since 1966 of the Yarra Valley District Mountain Football League, which was formed that year by the union of the Mountain District Football League, where Emerald had spent the previous four decades, winning a total of five senior flags, and the Yarra Valley Football Association.
Emerald’s four most recent senior premierships came in the YVMDFL’s Division Two competition, where the club spent the majority of its time since 1978. The 1983 and 1997 triumphs were especially noteworthy in that the club’s reserves also went top. In 2015 the Bombers comfortably overcame Kinglake in the grand final winning by 54 points, 11.14 (80) to 3.8 (26). The 2016 season saw them winning just two of their 18 Division One matches to finish in ninth place, ahead of bottom placed - and relegated - Belgrave only on percentage. A year later they managed to improve, but only slightly, with their tally of five wins for the year seeing them finish eighth of 10 clubs, a result that was duplicated in 2018.
The 2019 season saw the Bombers lining up in a new competition, the Outer East Football League wher, competing in the second tier Division One competition, they won five of their 16 fixtures to finish sixth (of eight teams).
