AustralianFootball.com Celebrating the history of the great Australian game
Since its formation in 1956 Heathmont has been an ever present competitor in the Eastern Football League and its precursor competitions, the Eastern District Football League (1962 to 2001) and the Croydon Ferntree Gully Football League (pre-1962). The Jets won their first senior grade flag in only their second season, in the CDFL’s Division Two competition. Their other four senior premierships have all come in the E(D)FL’s bottom tier, Division Four. In 1994 they defeated South Waverley Sandown by 26 points, 15.10 (100) to 11.8 (74). Ten years later they accounted for the grand final challenge of The Basin by a margin of 8 points, 14.9 (93) to 12.13 (85). Then, in 2008 they scored a 3 point victory over Chirnside Park, 13.13 (91) to 12.16 (88). Finally, the 2011 season was climaxed with a 14.10 (94) to 13.9 (87) grand final defeat of Glen Waverley.
In 2017 the Jets competed in the EFL's Division Three competition for the sixth season in a row. They won 12 out of 18 home and away matches to qualify for the finals in fifth place. They then accounted for Scoresby by 29 points in the elimination final before downing Templestowe by 4 points in the first semi final. The preliminary final brought another triumph, this time at the expense of Ringwood with scores of 15.10 (100) to 12.17 (89). The grand final pitted the Jets against Park Orchards and this is where they met their match, although they were far from disgraced. Final scores were Park Orchards 12.6 (78) to Heathmont 9.9 (63). A year later they suffered a slight decline in fortunes when they could not get past the first semi final challenge of eventual premiers Boronia.
