Montmorency

Montmorency Football Club was formed in 1924 and was admitted to the Diamond Valley Football League, precursor of today’s Northern Football League, the following year. The club struggled at first and after the 1932 season went into recess, resuming four years later. Montmorency’s first senior grade flag arrived in 1951, when it was captain-coached by Phil Ryan. Three years later it again went top, with Ryan again at the helm, this time in a non-playing capacity. Subsequent senior grade premierships came in 1976 and 1979, while the reserves have been successful a total of five times. The Magpies have twice reached the NFL Division One grand final, losing by 22 points to Heidelberg in 2008, and to Bundoora by 29 points in 2013. The last five seasons have seen the Magpies finishing fourth (2014), ninth (2015), sixth (2016) and seventh (both 2017 and 2018) in what is currently a ten team competition.
