The Cobras have struggled over much of their history, but they have persisted, and in 2008 managed to field both senior and reserve grade teams, an achievement that had often been beyond them in the past.

After spending many years in the Southern Football League's Division Three competition, where fortunes were mixed, they were among the founder members in 2018 of a new Division Four tier. Whilst in Division Three they finished fourth in 2011, were losing grand finalists against Moorabbin in 2012, dropped to sixth place in 2013, rose to fourth in 2014, came ninth in 2015, and slumped to the wooden spoon after a 2016 season which saw them manage just a solitary win. In 2017 they again only managed a single win but on this occasion they finished one place off the bottom as Dandenong lost every match for the year. Their debut season in Division Four in 2018 was little short of disastrous as they managed just a solitary win from 17 games to finish with the wooden spoon.
