Between the wars Ardmona participated in several different competitions without notable success. After world war two the club affiliated with the Kyabram District Football Association, precursor of today’s Kyabram District Football League, and for the better part of four decades it was a similar story, with losing grand finals in 1974 and 1992 the closest the seniors came to procuring a flag. After achieving the big breakthrough with a first ever premiership in 1993, however, the Cats consistently featured among the competition’s pace setters - for a time. Between 1992 and 2008 they contested a total of nine senior grade grand finals for five wins.
Between 2006 and 2008 they engaged in a hat trick of grand final clashes with Stanhope, comprising a 2 point triumph in 2006 followed by successive hefty losses in 2007-8. The next couple of seasons saw the Cats' fortunes deteriorating steadily; they won just 4 matches in 2009 before finishing in last place the following year after managing just 1 win all season. After showing slight improvement in 2011 they slumped to an even more ignominious wooden spoon the following year when they failed to record a single victory.
Over the past half a dozen seasons the Cats have continued to struggle, finishing 12th (of 13) in 2013, ninth in 2014, 11th in 2015 and last without a win in 2016 before being required to compete at reserve grade level only in 2017. On resuming in senior grade in 2018 it would be reasonable to observe that Ardmona found the going tough and with no wins and a draw from their 18 matches they finished a distant last, a result that was duplicated a year later.
