Ballina WFC
Based in Grafton, the Bombers have been at the forefront of efforts to establish a formal women's football competition in northern New South Wales. In 2017 a small scale league, under the auspices of the Queensland Women's Football Association and involving three clubs, got underway with Ballina winning 7 of 10 home and away matches to top the ladder ahead of the finals. This success guaranteed their place in the grand final and afforded them a week's rest as Lismore Swans and Tweed Coast Tigers fronted up in the preliminary final.[1] The Swans it was who confronted the Bombers on grand final day and it would seem that the break in the schedule did the Bombers no favours as they went down by 7 points with scores of 1.0 (6) to 1.7 (13).
The 2018 season saw the expansion of the league to four clubs. The Bombers finished third.
Footnotes
1. In actual fact the Bombers were idle for two consecutive weeks as they enjoyed a bye in the final round of home and away matches.
