Jerilderie

Jerilderie Football Club was in existence prior to world war one, when it competed in the Southern Riverina Football Association. The club continued its involvement in this competition between the wars, while after the second world war it was affiliated for a time with the Coreen Football League and then, between 1964 and 1993, with the Murray Football League. Jerilderie’s thirty season stint in the MuFL yielded a total of seven grand final appearances with the following results:

  • 1969 Cobram 9.11 (65); Jerilderie 9.5 (59)
  • 1976 Deniliquin 16.11 (107); Jerilderie 12.4 (76)
  • 1983 Jerilderie 16.15 (111); Deniliquin 10.8 (68)
  • 1985 Deniliquin 16.8 (104); Jerilderie 9.6 (60)
  • 1987 Jerilderie 16.8 (104); Finley 10.16 (76)
  • 1988 Finley 12.17 (89); Jerilderie 4.8 (32)
  • 1989 Jerilderie 17.16 (118); Tocumwal 7.9 (51)

Jerilderie’s 1980s combinations remain arguably the greatest in the club’s history.

Between 1994 and 2007 Jerilderie competed in the New South Wales-based Coreen Football League. The seniors reached a grand final in 2001, but lost by 36 points to Murray Magpies. In 2008 the club embarked on a new phase in its history when it joined the Picola and District Football League. The seniors performed modestly on debut, winning 7 of their 18 home and away matches to finish in tenth place on the fifteen team ladder. The reserves fared rather better, finishing ninth of sixteen teams with a 9-9 record. Subsequent seasons saw the Demons establishing themselves as a competition heavyweight. In 2009 the league was split into two sections with Jeridlerie finding their new home in the North West Division. Their debut season in this competition produced a premiership courtesy of a 9.14 (68) to 8.17 (65) grand final defeat of Berrigan. After missing the finals in 2010 the Demons went on to qualify for the next five grand finals in succession with the results being as follows:

  • 2011 Berrigan 16.6 (102); Jerilderie 10.11 (71)
  • 2012 Jerilderie 19.16 (130); Berrigan 12.9 (81)
  • 2013 Jerilderie 18.10 (118); Strathmerton 11.10 (76)
  • 2014 Jerilderie 22.15 (147); Strathmerton 13.8 (86)
  • 2015 Strathmerton 12.13 (85); Jerilderie 10.9 (69)

In 2016 and 2017 Jerilderie experienced a somewhat tougher time, finishing seventh (of nine) in both seasons before tumbling to last place in a 2018 season which saw the league reverting to a single division format.
