Leopold
The Lions spent time in a number of different competitions prior to commencing in the Geelong Football League in 1992. Their most successful phase was a twenty-one season stint in the Bellarine Football League which yielded senior grade premierships in 1979, thanks to an 18.12 (120) to 17.9 (111) grand final defeat of Newcomb, and 1990, when Anglesea was accounted for by a margin of 28 points. The seniors also came second in 1985, 1987 and 1991, while the reserves claimed a couple of flags from half a dozen grand finals.
Leopold’s seniors recently qualified for two GFL grand finals in three years. In 2014 they lost to Colac by 49 points, while in 2016 they secured their breakthrough premiership in the competition with a 14.9 (93) to 8.9 (57) grand final defeat of St. Mary's. In 2017 the Lions qualified for the finals in fifth place which was where they ultimately finished following a 6.15 (51) to 11.13 (79) elimination final loss to Colac. A year later they progressed as far as the preliminary final in which they suffered a soul destroying 1 point defeat at the hands of St. Joseph's.
