The original Loxton Football Club existed between 1910 and 1930, at which point it divided into two new clubs, Imperials and Olympians. During its existence it won five premierships in the Browns Well Football Association, including one jointly with Pata.

Today’s Loxton Football Club dates back to 1946 when it commenced in the Upper Murray Football Association (renamed the Upper Murray Football League in 1952). Over the years it proved itself far and away this competition’s most successful club, contesting twenty-two grand finals in twenty-six seasons and winning the premiership seventeen times. After the UMFL was reconstituted as the Riverland Football League in 1972 the Tigers continued to make regular grand final appearances but their success rate dropped. In the thirty-eight seasons since 1972 they played off for the premiership thirteen times but only managed to claim victory in 1976 at the expense of Barmera Monash, 1988 against Waikerie, and both 1996 and 2006 against Loxton North. Nevertheless, with a total of twenty-one post-war senior grade premierships Loxton must rank as one of Australian football’s most consistently successful clubs.
