Mount Barker WFC

The Mount Barker women's football team was established in 2016 and hit the ground running by cruising to that year's premiership in Division Two of the South Australian Women's Football League. Grand final day saw them opposed by minor premiers and warm pre-match favourites Mount Lofty but the Bakeroos rose to the occasion superbly and, despite trailing early, produced a match winning 2.3 to nil third quarter en route to an eventual 4.7 (31) to 3.6 (24) triumph. Such is the popularity of football in the local community that the club was able to field two senior teams in 2017, one in Division Two and the other in the newly formed Division Five. Both sides performed creditably with the As coming fifth and the Bs third. A year later the A Grade team qualified for the finals and eventually finished third while the Bs, competing in Division Six, did likewise.
