The second match up takes us to the opposite side of the Adelaide metro area, all the way to the My Money House Oval in Elizabeth for the Northern Derby between the Bulldogs and the Roosters. The 2017 season ended in a heart-breaking seven-point loss to the Blues in the 1st Semi-Final, all this while the Roosters were watching on the sidelines holding the wooden spoon. Early last year, the Roosters took their first win at Centrals expense in Round 2, but couldn't back up in Round 15 with an 11-point loss. In the off-season the Dogs were rather low-key with their recruitment, while the Roosters gained more than a few handy new hands. But those hands seemed to go missing early in proceedings, despite the Dogs missing more than a few sitters they were up by 15 points at quarter-time after scoring 4.6 to 2.3. More skewed shooting on goal by the Dogs allowed the Roosters to stay relatively in touch, the margin extended to three straight kicks by the long break after a 2.5 to 2.2 second quarter. The Roosters brought that gap back to just two goals within two minutes of the restart, but the Dogs' accuracy issues were pretty much done and dusted after that. By three quarter-time, the Dogs were up by eight goals after their 6.1 to 1.1 third term. Centrals only added to the Roosters' woes in the final term, adding 5.2 to North's 3.1 to run out 61-point winners.
Justin Hoskin was named best for the Bulldogs, the Roosters named captain Max Thring as their best.
