Match Report

Next up we're heading to the outer north of Adelaide, to the X-Convenience Oval in Elizabeth for the battle of the current cellar-dwellers of the league, the Bulldogs and the Bloods. The last time these sides met was also in Round 2 at the Oval and it was one that got away from both sides in the end with an 86-all draw. It was probably harder on the Dogs, who with the last shot on goal missed everything where even a behind would have been enough. Since that time, only the Bloods have emerged with a victory, back in Round 4 against the reigning premiers at home. From their outings last weekend, the Bloods were unlucky against the Roosters to go down by a point at Richmond, while the Doggies' hoodoo against Sturt continued with an ugly 65-point drubbing.

Even with the wind somewhat behind them in the opening term, the Bloods would lead by just two goals at the quarter-time siren after scoring 2.3 to the Dogs' wasteful three behinds. The Dogs weren't fully able to take advantage of the breeze themselves and the Bloods had better luck at the other end compared to the home side in the opening term. By the long break however, the gap was down to nine points after Centrals outscored West 3.3 to three goals without a miss. Now this season the Dogs have had small passages of effective football. The only problem was continuity. Well this was not to be the case for today, the Dogs' entire second half probably their best half of football this season. The Dogs would go into the final change with a four-point lead, having outscored the Bloods 4.1 to two goals in the third quarter. For the Dogs' faithful, a sense of relief at the final siren. The home side finished off with a 3.6 to one goal last quarter to win by 22 points, only problem here was that it wasn't enough to lift them off the bottom of the ladder thanks to percentage keeping West above them.

Justin Hoskin kicked four goals and notched up 29 disposals to take best afield honours for Centrals, while the Bloods named Elliot Dunkin as their best with 32 disposals and six marks.
