In the final match for Round 4, Sunday afternoon footy brings us to Alberton Oval as the Magpies and the Redlegs clashed in the first encounter of the two-game Williams-Gallagher Cup series. The Redlegs have been hot so far in 2012, while Port let one slip a couple of weeks ago against Sturt. As far as head-to-head encounters go, the Redlegs have had nine of the last 11 which include a two-goal win at The Parade in Round 18 last season.
A crowd of just under 4800 filed in for this, the Redlegs starting the afternoon off belting home 8.1 to the Magpies' 3.3 to take a 28-point lead at the first change. The Magpies would answer back in the second term, only inaccuracy kept them getting too close. Port's 4.4 to Norwood's 3.4 would bring the deficit back to 22 points at the half-time break. When play resumed, the Magpies again chipped away at the Redlegs' advantage, but once again inaccurate kicking denied the home side from taking over the lead. Port scored 4.4 to Norwood's 2.1, at three quarter-time the 'Legs held a one-goal lead. However, to the disappointment of the Port faithful, their team ran out of puff as they eventually went down by 41 points after the Redlegs booted 5.5 to a single behind.
New recruit Nathan Batsanis was voted best for the Redlegs, while the Magpies named Zane Kirkwood as their best on ground.
